Dec 01, 2010 Dec 01, 2010 Research highlights High-temperature corrosion in the superheater of a large-scale waste-to-energy plant was investigated. Nickel-/iron-based alloys and austenitic stainless steel probes were placed in the furnace, some with an aluminide coating. Aluminide coatings is a promising technique for minimising superheater corrosion.
plants.1 Some of these alloys include 70/30 cupro-nickel, 90/10 cupro-nickel, admiralty, and aluminum brass.2 These materials were used in desalination plants because of their antifouling characteristics and good heat exchange properties. However, copper alloys are very susceptible to corrosion when exposed to
The plants showing some degree of corrosion are between 1-15 years old but have also had train expansions in the last 5 years. As for plant size, the majority of wastewater treatment plants without corrosion problems in preliminary treatment handle 0.1 to 1.0 mgd (42%) or 1 to 5 mgd (31%) average flow.
As indicated in this figure, corrosion in amine plants can be divided into two broad categories 1. Wet Acid Gas Corrosion Wet acid gas corrosion of carbon steel is the reaction of CO 2 and H 2 S with iron through a thin liquid film. 2. Amine Solution Corrosion Amine solution corrosion is the corrosion of carbon steel in the presence of aqueous ...
Factors mitigating erosion-corrosion which are under the control of the plant owner are the pH(9.0 is best), oxygen content (50ppb), and pipe material (a 2.25Cr-1Mo steel is very resistant to single-phase erosion-corrosion while austenitics are resistant to wet steam).

Corrosion resistance is the main requirement to be considered in the selection of materials therefore, inhibitors and corrosion-resistant alloys are used in these plants. Equipment for ...
Feb 11, 2011 Feb 11, 2011 Corrosion is a very wide and serious problem in todays industry, causing loss of productivity on plants and sometimes tragedies. Not just metals corrode, plastics, concrete and wide range of materials degrade because reactions with their environments.

In power plants, corrosion is the primary factor leading to costly and critical downtimes. The water-steam circuits in fossil and nuclear power plants are inherently prone to corrosion, as metal components are constantly in contact with water. Measures to monitor or prevent corrosion are crucial in this context.
